The autumn campaign for Halde, a small knitwear label, shot at dawn and dusk in the flat salt country of the Camargue.

A man with curly hair walks through tall grass at sunrise, the low sun lighting his hair from behind.

First light, the far field.

A young woman in a striped wool sweater leans on a car in golden evening light, her hair lifted by the wind.

Last light, the old Peugeot.

The story

Halde makes sweaters that are meant to be worn outside, so we went somewhere with nothing to hide behind. In the Camargue the land is so flat that the sun stays low for a long time at either end of the day, which gave us two short windows of usable light and a lot of waiting in between.

We shot on six mornings and five evenings. The car belonged to the farmer who let us use his field, and he asked for a print of it in return.

Passersby

Slow shutters on the boulevards. The crowd turns to weather, and the one person standing still becomes the subject.

A young man in a blue jacket stands perfectly still on a zebra crossing while the crowd streams past him in a warm blur.
